CITIZENS FOR TRUTH DEMANDS INDEPENDENT INQUIRY INTO GATES ASSASSINATION

Citizens for Truth has formed an Emergency Committee to denounce official stonewalling by Los Angeles authorities and to demand an independent commission to investigate the murder of Bill Gates on December 2, 1999.

"The need for a truly independent investigation has reached critical mass," said Citizens for Truth co-president Debra Meagher. "The citizens of Los Angeles and the world deserve to know the truth behind the killing of Gates, and the issue will never be put to rest if there are lingering questions about the credibility of the investigators."

"We can't let the fox investigate the chicken coop," said Citizens for Truth co-president David James. "The LAPD cannot adequately investigate the serious charges of its own misconduct, and the District Attorney will be too dependent on the LAPD to perform a truly independent inquiry."

Citizens for Truth joins with others in demanding that the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners appoint a blue-ribbon panel of national figures to conduct an independent investigation.

Citizens for Truth will be taking its case directly to the Police Commission at upcoming public community meetings of the Commission in Watts (tonight, January 10) and Echo Park (January 20).

Citizens for Truth is a grass-roots organization formed by Debra Meagher and David James in December 1999.
